May 2022 Speaking Gigs

I’ll be holding three talks and workshops remotely in May.

Diversity in May (Mangfold i mai) – ARIA Live Regions and User Preferences

For NAV, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration, I’ll be holding two sessions for their “Diversity in May” series of events.

  1. Workshop: We’re ARIA Live! (May 3, 2022, 10:00-11:30)
A deeper dive into ARIA live regions, their alternatives, and particularities. (This workshop is NAV internal, registration for NAV employees is available on the website.)
  2. Talk: Respecting User Preferences on the Web (May 13, 8:30–9:15)
Allowing users to set their preferences and respecting them on websites is essential for accessibility. In this talk, that is updated for 2022, I’ll talk about which user preferences exist, how to implement, and how to test them. (This talk is open to everyone.)

AccessU 2022 – Web Accessibility is Broken

Knowbility’s AccessU 2022 has a different format this year, with asynchronous sessions being released on May 5th, 2022 and Questions and Answers during the “official” conference time between May 9 and 12.

In my brand-new talk, “Web Accessibility is broken. It’s time to fix it.”, I look at the system of web accessibility and what makes it so hard for web developers, designers, and managers to achieve. And then I have a few modest proposals for how to fix the system so that we get wider implementations and a higher overall standard.

You can buy tickets for AccessU 2022 here.
